April 4th - 8th

I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break!

Ms. Kerno and our N2 friends invited us to help plant sunflowers with them.  Once the sunflowers grow, the will be planted in our outside gardens.

 Handwriting Skills for Preschoolers
  • Draw wavy lines across the page that look like lines of text from a book.
  • Make distinct marks that look like letters
  • Write actual letters; especially the letters in their name
  • May write their name
  • May try different kinds of writing, like a list or card
  • May start to try to label their drawings

Foundational skills that go into handwriting
  • Core strength to sit up straight
  • Stability of posture to have precise fine motor skills
  • Strong pincer grasp
  • Arm and hand strength-are they able to manipulate objects one handed?
  • Concentration skills
  • Visual motor skills for their eyes and hands to communicate

Bone development in children's hands.

Little hands develop over time.  Handwriting should not be pushed earlier then a child is ready.
Bodies and bones need time to grow and strengthen before children learn this skill.  Rushing handwriting does not hurry this process.  Follow your child's lead.
