September 24th - 28th, 2018

Our Weekly Reader last week taught us about farming and harvesting apples.  We made our own apples using paint, paper plates and a shower puff to hang outside our classroom.

We love to play outside any opportunity we get!   Please make sure you send your child to school in sneakers.  Each day, before heading outside, we review our play ground rules.

We love to go down the green slide!

And climb too!

We will be using the Teach your Monster to Read program at school and it will be beneficial to your child if they can play at home as well.  If your child is ready to begin  this program, you received a letter and log in information from me this week.  Please do not let them play at home just yet, we want to introduce it at school first.  Please remember to send in a pair of headphones.

In Religion, we talked about God giving us eyes to see all the wonderful things in the world.
Here is a list of things that we can see:

Our friends
Bumble Bees
Bugs
Mosquitoes
Butterflies
Rhinos  ( apparently many of us see rhinos!:-)
Mommy & Daddy
Toys
Brother
Sister
Babies
Numbers
Dogs
Cats

  • Please empty blue folders daily.  This is a great way to start a conversation with your child about their day.
  • Be sure to use the music that you received at back to school night at home.  The children really enjoy the music!
  • If you have not sent in headphones please do so.
  • Gym days are Monday & Wednesday next week.
  • Sneakers should be worn everyday.
  • I will be sending emails out in the next few days just to touch base regarding your child's progress.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hard workers!

We have been hard at work during our Montessori time.  Each day we learn new work both as a group and individually.  The children are always proud of  themselves when they have completed "challenging" work.  Be sure to ask them about it each day!

Team work makes the dream work!!!

We had our first Religion lesson.  Our Religion unit is God Made Me.  This week we focused on God made our ears.  We learned a song and discussed the different things we can hear.
If you have not heard the song already, be sure to ask your child!

I have ears so I can hear, I can hear, I can hear.
I have ears so I can hear.
God made me wonderful!

Our friends that are ready to work on their pre-writing skills have begun some handwriting activities.  By now, you have seen two handwriting papers come home.  The first paper had lines from top to bottom and bottom to top, the second (pictured above) had the children practice drawing lines left to right and right to left.  These type of controlled exercises allow the student to feel how much pressure is needed to make a mark.  Having them stay within a defined area allows them to practice control.

  • Our gym days next week are Tuesday & Thursday
  • Scholastic Book orders are due by 9/24.
  • Your child's rest item will be sent home every Friday to be laundered.  Please remember to send it back on Mondays.
  • All that is needed for rest is a towel or small blanket.  They should be able to put it in their school bag.
  • Please make sure your child has a regular sized backpack; large enough for the blue folder to fit.
  • Don't forget to check out the "specials" teacher's blogs!

As you heard at back to school night, our auction is our only fundraising event for the school year.  In addition to attending, please consider volunteering.  Pleas contact Jen Gergo at the above address for more information.

Have a great weekend!

The first Blog of the year!

Hello!  Welcome to the Nursery Blog.
Here you will find pictures and weekly information about what is going on in our classroom.

September is about learning the ropes, meeting new friends, and settling into a new routine.

We are so fortunate to be in a community where we have time carved out of  our schedule to be a whole.  On Tuesday, Day 2, we got together as an entire student body and met our "families".  The activity was to name their family and create their family crest.  We ended the time together with a rendition of "Baby Shark" - just for fun!

Charlie and his family.

Maya and her family.

Madison and her family.

Braden and his family.

Remy and her family.

Peyton and her family.

Grace and her family.

**Half day students will participate in family activities as well.

Outside Play

We will go outside everyday weather permitting.  Please make sure your child is wearing sneakers and appropriate clothing.  Hopefully the rain stops so we can get back out to our wonderful play space!

We are really trying to have healthy and delicious snacks this school year.  We enjoyed yummy apples at snack time!

I am so proud at how well the Nursery class has worked this week.  They are eager to try and learn new, challenging work.  We are already up to an hour work period!!  That is super impressive!!!

Take a look at us hard at work!

We will practice safety drills with the entire school throughout the course of the school year.  Prior to the drills there is a lot of conversation about the drill and what we do with ourselves to keep us safe.  We had our first fire drill this week.  As a class we talked about why we get out of the building, firemen are helpers, and the loud bell is not scary just telling us to get out. The bell was startling however, we did a great job!
