April 25th -29th

We celebrated Earth day with a color scavenger hunt.

We listed colors as we found them in nature!

The Caterpillars have arrived!

We will begin to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. We can not wait to watch the transformation!

April 18th-22nd

A visit from our kindergarten friends.

A few of our friends from Kindergarten came to our class to read us a story from their reader.  We are so proud of the readers that they have become!

Ms. Brown brought her violin down to play for us.  She explained how the violin makes different sounds and played a few songs.  We were so excited that she shared her amazing talent with us!

Listen for yourself.

April 11th - April 15th

Hard at Work

Easter Egg Rescue - Sensory Bin
The goal of this activity was to rescue the eggs from the sensory bin by carefully sticking the tongs through the tape web, picking up an egg and then bring it back up without losing it!  Very tricky but lots of fun!
This activity can be done inside or out and the eggs can be substituted with other small objects.

  • There is no school on Friday, April 15, and Monday, April 18, for Easter break. Classes resume on Tuesday, April 19.

  • Hope you can join us for the HCA Spring Benefit and Silent Auction on Saturday, April 30. Please see the Happenings for more information.

 Handwriting Skills for Preschoolers
  • Draw wavy lines across the page that look like lines of text from a book.
  • Make distinct marks that look like letters
  • Write actual letters; especially the letters in their name
  • May write their name
  • May try different kinds of writing, like a list or card
  • May start to try to label their drawings

Foundational skills that go into handwriting
  • Core strength to sit up straight
  • Stability of posture to have precise fine motor skills
  • Strong pincer grasp
  • Arm and hand strength-are they able to manipulate objects one handed?
  • Concentration skills
  • Visual motor skills for their eyes and hands to communicate

Bone development in children's hands.

Little hands develop over time.  Handwriting should not be pushed earlier then a child is ready.
Bodies and bones need time to grow and strengthen before children learn this skill.  Rushing handwriting does not hurry this process.  Follow your child's lead.
