Our butterflies have emerged!

They have stretched their wings and have started to flutter.

We fed them orange slices and sugar water so that they could strengthen their wings.

We had so much fun feeding, observing, learning about and enjoying our butterflies!

 

On Tuesday, we released our butterflies into nature.

 Butterfly Update

We are patiently waiting for our painted lady butterflies to emerge from the chrsalides.  

In addition to learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, we have been learning about other insects too!

Did you know .....

 Grasshoppers hop!

 Caterpillars stretch!

Ants march!

Ladybugs spin!

Butterflies flutter!

Did you know that all insects have 6 legs? 

Our Weekly Reader activity was to count and draw six legs on the bumble bee.

May 2nd-May 6th

This week our caterpillars moved to the top of the cups and attached themselves to the lid.  They hung in a "J" shape, shed their exoskeletons one last time and hardened into chrysalides.

We checked on them each day making notes of the changes.

We moved our chrysalides to the butterfly habitat.

Now we wait for our butterflies to emerge! 

It was so nice to have the Moms join us for the May crowning and celebration of Mothers!
