December 13th -17th

We watched our Pre-K, Kindergarten, 3rd & 4th grades friends in the Christmas show.  It was a wonderful way to kick off our week!

Celebrating Saint Lucia

We made Saint Lucia crowns to wear at our Prayer Service.  The Saint Lucia celebration is a Swedish tradition in which they celebrate light, hope and kindness.  The celebration takes place right before Christmas.

A visit from St. Nicholas!

On Monday, to celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas, we placed our shoes in the hall in hopes that St. Nick would leave us a surprise.

Our shoes lined up in the hallway.

St, Nicholas left a candy cane and a sticker in our shoe. We were so excited!

Christmas Crafting!

Celebrating Mary, Jesus' Mommy

The Nursery 2 and 3 classes came together to celebrate Mary.  We read a story about how kind Mary was and that she always tried to make good choices. These qualities are what made her a wonderful mother to baby Jesus.

Christmas STEM Activity

Using magna-tiles and jingle bells we worked together to create our own  Christmas trees.

Reminders:

• Sunday, December 12 at 1:30 PM - Please join us for the Family Advent Liturgy in the HCA gym. All are welcome to attend. You can find the RSVP link in the Happenings. We are hosting a toy drive for children from the ages of infancy to 12 years old so please feel free to bring an unwrapped toy. There will also be a bake sale after the Mass. 

• On Friday, December 17, all students will have a dress down day and may wear holiday colors to school.

• The last day of school before Christmas break is Friday, December 17. It is a half day with dismissal at 12:00 noon and no HCA Plus. Christmas break runs from December 18 through January 3. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Community Time

This Community Time was All Religions.

Buddhism: Using Go Noodle, we practiced mindfulness/meditation exercises. The children were invited to sit pretzel style with their hands on their knees, palms in an upward position.  They were encouraged to listen and think about meditation.  

Judaism: The Dreidel Game; A Hanukkah tradition.

Islam: To learn about Ramadan, we read My First Ramadan by Karen Katz and Crayola Ramadan And Eid-A-Fitr Colors by Mari Schuh.

Hinduism: What is Diwali?  We watched a a short video from The Let's Go Club on what the Diwali is.  We then played the traditional Diwali game: Golden Spoon Hunt. (similar to an Easter egg hunt)  The person who finds the golden spoon is said to have prosperity and good fortune coming their way.  

We have been very busy practicing our song for the Christmas show.

Christmas Crafting

• The Family Christmas Liturgy will take place on Sunday, December 12 at 1:30 pm. We are asking families to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Murphy’s Giving Market.

• During December we celebrate ALL FAMILIES MONTH at HCA. Students will be meeting with their school families during community time. Please email a family photo to your child's homeroom teacher or send in a family photo with your child by 12/9. Students will take turns introducing their families to their school families. 

• PREK AND K ONLY -  On Thursday, December 16th, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grades will present the Christmas Show Gala for the parents only at 10:00 AM.

• Looking ahead - The last day of school before Christmas break is Friday, December 17. It is a half day with dismissal at 12:00 noon and no HCA Plus. Christmas break runs from December 18 through January 3. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
