January 20th-24th

During the Month of January we have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.  Each day on our morning announcements we were introduced to a famous Latinos/as.  The Diversity Committee planned a fun-filled Hispanic Heritage Celebration for Community Time.

We decorated maracas.

We had a dance party in the gym to Hispanic music.

Mrs. Roz read us The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Spanish.
We colored a Spanish vocabulary coloring page.

Great friendships start in Nursery 3!

We are still experiencing a high volume of illness.  Please refer to Mrs. Fox-Tully's email and the handy chart below when you are not sure if your child should attend school.  Thank you for working with me to stop the spread of germs in our classroom.

Pre-Writing Practice

Pre-writing skills are essential for students to be able to develop the ability to hold and move a pencil fluently and effectively.  A major component of pre-writing skills are the pre-writing of shapes.  These are pencil strokes that most letters and numbers are comprised of.  These strokes include l, -, O, +, square, /, X and a triangle.  Below the children are writing l; they followed the line from the top to the bottom.

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Since there has not been any snow on the ground, we decided to make our own.  We combined baking soda and conditioner to make the perfect consistency of snow.  We enjoyed playing in it!

This week we learned about the arctic and the animals that live there.  We discovered that if we traveled the arctic we would need special snow shoes.  On our journey through the frozen tundra we may run into an arctic fox, a snowy owl, a harp seal and maybe even a polar bear!

frozen shaving cream ocean sensory play

We explored the frozen tundra in our sensory bin.  (frozen shaving cream, blue food coloring, add animals before freezing)  Students were able to feel "frozen" as well as see how things thaw.
