Week of January 22-26



FLY, EAGLES, FLY!!!!

 

We began our week celebrating a fabulous win!!  We are so excited that the Eagles are going to the Super Bowl!!   Keep an eye on your email for the next HCA Eagles day.

We were so glad that so many parents were able to  join us on Tuesday for the Parent Visitation.  It is such a great day for parents to see a snip it of our daily N2 life and visit N3 to see what is in store for next year!  I do hope you enjoyed the time as well. 



 



 Our work time  emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching or reading. As you see in the pictures above,  children are able to learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activities . Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.

 

 

 

We learned about the story of Jack the Beanstalk and how his stalk grew and grew and allowed him to climb up to the clouds.  When we were finished reading, we were able to build our own "stalks" in the clouds (shaving cream)!  We used wood and foam blocks; the foam blocks stuck together much better!

 

 

Cold and flu season is upon us!  Mrs. Festa and I are cleaning the room and materials each and everyday to help prevent the spread of germs.  We are also washing hands and using sanitizer every chance we can.  Please be mindful that your child must be fever, vomit and/or diarrhea free without meds for 24 hours before returning to school.  Please remind your child to cough into their elbow.  This is something we practice almost daily. 

 

 

• We are still in need of wipes.  Thank you to those who have already sent them in.
• Scholastic Book orders went home on Thursday.  If you are interested, you may buy online using the code on the back of the form or you may return it to school. THEY ARE DO BACK TO ME BY 2/2/18.
• READ!!  Read to your child EVERYDAY!
• PLAY!!!    Two years old learn from play; ignite their imagination and creativity and play a game,  play barbies, race cars, or build with magnatiles or blocks. 
• In the lunch room, the children sit at the table and are expected to wait until all are finished.  You can practice this by having family dinners at the table and having your child stay seated until everyone is finished.

Week of January 15th - 19th

We are getting back into the swing of our school routine.  Each day begins with Montessori lessons; we are now up to an hour (sometimes a little longer) work period.  We work very hard on our lessons and are always proud of the final product!

Nursery 2 is lucky enough to partake in "specials" each day.  On Tuesdays we have Music and on Thursdays we have STEAM and Music.  This week in music we worked on  songs for upcoming events like Parent Visitation Day.  (If you happen to be here during music:-)  At  the end of music Mrs. Clay rewarded our hard work with a scarf dance Waltz. 

Some of us choose to dance alone and others grabbed a partner!

In STEAM we continued the discussion about simple machines.  This week we talked about a slide.  The children took turns pushing a block up the slide and pushing a car down the slide.  This also reinforced opposite vocabulary- up and down.

For those of us that have transitioned to underwear, keep up the good work!!!  I know potty training can be frustrating as a parent but keep in mind elimination is one of the few things toddlers can control in their environment.  Stay positive, even when accidents happen, and they WILL happen!!  Allow your child to be part of the clean up process when accidents do happen.  Keep rewards to a minimum but do verbally praise this milestone! 

-Parent Visitation Day will be help on Tuesday, January 23rd from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  All parents are invited to visit all of the classrooms.  This is an opportunity to see N2 in action as well as visit future classrooms.

-Student Council is collecting clean, gently used men's, women's and children's coats.  The coat drive will end January 31, 2018. 

-Please send in your (empty) paper towel roll(s).  We are in need of them for a service project.

-Please send in baby wipes.

Welcome Back!

Happy New Year!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday with their loved ones.

Reunited and it feels so good!!!!

 



Mother Nature delayed our return a bit but we are all happy to be back together again!!  We spent a good portion of this week reviewing the rules of classroom as well as lessons we learned in the first half of the year.

 

 

In observance of the Epiphany (Jan. 6), our middle school friends dressed as the Magi, visited our classroom and blessed us with holy water. 

 

 

 













We welcomed a new friend to our classroom.  His name is Chase.  We are so excited for him to be part of N2.

 

 





Many of our friends returned from the break well on their way to being potty trained.  This has sparked major interest from EVERYONE!!  We are all sitting on the potty a few times a day.  Mrs. Clay was so excited to hear this good news that they did the "Potty Conga" during music.  Be sure to ask your child about this :-)

 

 

 

We could not get outside to play in the snow so we brought it inside!!!  (boy did I get some funny looks!)  We enjoyed digging and scooping the snow.  We discussed hot vs cold and what happens to snow as it gets warm.

 

 

 





This week in STEAM we talked about levers.  Mrs.Zwilling showed us how to move the lever on the iPad.  We then moved to our circle rug to launch snowballs (cotton).  We took turns placing the cotton on one side of the lever and then pushing the other side down to launch the snowball in the air.  So much fun that we didn't even realize we were learning!

-Monday, January 15th there will be NO SCHOOL in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

-If your child is actively potty training please send in many changes of clothes.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!!

 

 

Our week was filled with show practice and finishing our crafts for mom & dad!   I am so incredibly proud of the children's performance on Grandparents Day.  I do hope that those in attendance enjoyed the special day as well.

Getting in the Holiday Spirit!

 

 

 

 

 

This week we got together with our 6th grade buddies to make Christmas cards for members of our community who may be hospital bound or residing in a nursing home this holiday season.  Our buddies helped us to cut, glue and decorate cards that will be delivered by Mrs. Mossor.  Each card had a seasonal message and was signed by both the N2 and 6th grade students. 

 

 

In Physical Education we are working on stations. Each class period has several stations set up that the children rotate through.  Stations allow us a hands-on experience, play opportunity, and reinforces turn taking.  We have so much fun in PE!

 

 



 

 

 

 



Our Grandparents' Day celebration is next Thursday,  December 14th.  The show will take place in the school gym, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending around 10:00 a.m.  Since N2 will be signing two songs prior to the start of the Lower School Christmas Show and Nativity, the N2  parents are welcome to attend the show.  At the close of the show, grandparents and children will go to the cafeteria to enjoy brunch, if you wish to remain at school you are invited to relax in Mrs.  Fox-Tully's office with coffee and treats.  Per Mrs. Fox-Tully's email, please respond to Ms. Hough if you plan to stay for coffee. 



On Friday, December 15th, the students will have a pizza lunch. The cost of this lunch is $3.00.
 

If your child does not eat pizza, please pack him/her a lunch because cafeteria service will not be available on that day.

 

Each student must bring his/her own beverage, but the school will provide a dessert for lunch.     

Please complete the form that went home this week  and return it to school on or before Wednesday, December 13th. Please place the form with the $3.00 in an envelope marked with your child’s name, grade, and “PIZZA LUNCH.”

 

 

FAMILY CHRISTMAS LITURGY

 

Lastly, we will be kicking of the holiday season with The HCA Family Christmas Liturgy this Sunday, December 10th at 10 a.m.  Mass will be held in the school gym followed by a milk and cookie reception.  Rumor has it there may be a special visitor!!  We hope to see your family there!

STEAM!

 

This week in STEAM we learned about Ozobot.  Ozobot is a small robot that is controlled by the lines the children draw.  Each child was given the opportunity to draw lines on the iPad and have Ozobot follow them.  We were able to choose the colors of our lines and watch Ozobot move and change colors as he followed the corresponding line. 



 

 

 

 

 



 

 

 

GRANDPARENTS DAY IS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14th!!!!  This is a great day for your child to spend some time with their grandparents (or a special someone if grandparents are deceased or far away).  You should have received an email with further information today please let me know if you did not.  RSVP by Monday, December 4th.

On Tuesday, We enjoyed a "Friends giving" with our friends from Nursery 3.  We enjoyed turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing and lots of delicious desserts!  Thank you to all that contributed.
