May 24th- 28th

We had a special treat this week from our friends in Kindergarten!
Nursery 3 students were paired up with a Kindergarten student and enjoyed a story.  This collaborative activity gives Kindergartners reading practice time while modeling for our younger students the fun that is to come!

You can watch videos of the kindergartners reading to their friends on Mrs. DeBardino's blog here.
They are awesome readers!

Water beads are one of our favorite sensory table activities!
Water beads promote learning and development in fine motor, coordination, exploration, sensory and creativity skills.  Water beads also introduce children to the scientific concept of absorption as the beads grow larger as they absorb the water.

Please send your child to school each day with a filled water bottle.  We will refill if needed.

  • There will be no school Friday, May 28th and Monday, May 31st in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, June 1st.

  • Please fill out the Diversity and Inclusion Survey  if you have not done so already.

  • Please send in your leaf for the school-wide Family of Families Project if you have not done so already

  • The last day of school is Wednesday, June 9th.  This will be a noon dismissal for all students. There will be NO HCA PLUS.

May 10th - May 14th

This week we did some process art.  Process art is open ended, experiential, unstructured, self-motivated, creative and unique.  It focuses on the creative process, or the doing, rather than the outcome.

It is through the doing that children learn: problem solving, experimentation, expression, scientific thinking, mathematical understanding and language development.

Children gain confidence when they create something based off of their own ideas.

The children used tissue paper, a paint brush and water to create their own collage. They were so excited to see how the colors bled together to create their picture.

Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Myers (Max's mom & dad) for being this week's Mystery Reader. 💗📖

We loved hearing about Golly Gump and his adventures!

A fist bump for conflict resolution!

An important social skill that children in Nursery 3 begin to learn is the ability too successfully resolve a conflict.  When parents and teachers nurture the development of conflict resolution skills, we provide the children with the ability to resolve situations before they get out of control.  Learning steps in problem solving allow a child to control emotions, identify a problem, and work out a problem/come up with a solution.

We can help children by:
  • Help them to verbalize their feelings.
  • Model behavior: children are always watching!   Provide a good model of problem solving.
  • Read stories with conflict resolution to your child.
    • The Bad Seed by Jory John
    • Stick and Stone by Beth Ferry
    • The Boy with BIG, BIG Feelings by Britney Winn Lee
    • Ruby finds a worry by Tom Percival
    • The Way I Feel by Janan Cain
    • What if everybody did that? by Ellen Javernick
  • Praise them when a conflict is independently resolved

Kindness Grows Here

The Early Childhood Division has begun a Kindness tree.
Children earn hearts on the tree by getting "caught" doing random acts of kindness.
I will be posting pictures each week so you can see our tree bloom.
