Trying to catch a Leprechaun - Sink or Float - A new addition to our room

I hope everyone had the opportunity to see Seussical Jr last weekend.  It was a great show and I am super proud of our older HCA students.  Now that the show has ended, Nursery two was able to inherit Horton's tree for our reading corner.  The kids were so excited to find a tree in our room on Monday morning!!!

Just waiting to add our grass!  (green shag rug)

Trying to catch a Leprechaun!

Last week in celebration of St. Patrick's Day, we tried to catch a Leprechaun.  First, we read a story on how to catch one.  Next, we built a trap and then we waited!!  The Leprechaun was to fast for our eyes however, he did leave us some gold :-)

Setting the trap.

We thought we caught one, boy were we surprised!

Sink or Float

In STEAM, we used Easter eggs to see what would sink and what would float.  We discovered that an egg filled with air floated and egg filled with water sank to the bottom.

We continue to work hard during our Montessori time.  We are learning new things and or expanding on old lessons.

You may have noticed your child's cup coming home full this week.  On Monday, we began to drink from a regular cup at snack time.  Everyone did a fantastic job!  If your child does not stay for lunch, you no longer need to send in a sippy cup.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

In STEAM with Mrs. Zwilling we read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.  When we were finished reading, we used Play Doh to build a tree, and then added wooden letters to see how many it would take to topple our tree.  Chicka chicka boom boom!

Working Together!

Teaching children to work together is an essential life skill.  The ability to work together improves communication, collaboration, sharing and respecting others to name a few.  At two and three years old we work on this by working together on lessons, building structures with blocks, or playing games that require turn taking.

Spirit Week at HCA!!!

Our week began as Superheroes!

We read the book We're All Wonders by RJ Palacio.  We talked about manners and why it is important to be kind; we even added a few more hearts on our blooming kindness tree!

On Wednesday, we had our very on HCA Olympics!  Nursery 2 represented Djibouti.  For those of you who do not know, Djibouti is a country located in the horn of Africa.  We participated in four Olympic events: Skiing, Skeleton, Hockey, and Curling.

Some of us were afraid to do the skeleton so Mrs. Devenney had to show them it was not scary!!!

On Thursday, we celebrated life in the 1920's.  We watched a Charlie Chaplin movie about a fireman and then a recreation of it done by the 8th grade.  The kids really thought it was cool that the movie was  black & white and had no sound!

You can check out the 8th grade's version here:

Did you know that Jacks was a game from the 20's?  Together, with N3 and PreK, we learned how to play Jacks.  Ms. Wood even stopped in to play too!

Lastly, but certainly not least, Ms. Webb taught us all how to do the Charleston.  We had such a great time!

Today we enjoyed a delicious pancake lunch!Image result for pancake clip art
