In STEAM, we explored different items that were in groups of 100.  (pipe cleaners, animals, crayons, clips) We visually decided which items were larger and which were smaller, and which weighed more and which weighed less.  After making our predictions, we weighed the items on a scale.

Kindness and some sweet treats!

This week we celebrated Kindness; what it means and how we can be kind.  The children were introduced to the Kindness Tree.  When you get "caught" being kind, you get to place a heart on the tree!  If you "catch" your child at home being kind to you, a sibling, or helping out please be sure to tell me so we can hang up a heart.  Some of our friends have gotten "caught" already!  Mrs. Festa and I can not wait until our entire tree is filled:-)

We are trying to recognize our name in print without our photo.  New name tags will be going on our morning meeting rug with only our names, no pictures.  Each of us dotted out the first letter of our names with do a dot markers.

On Wednesday, we celebrated friendship and Ash Wednesday.  Thank you to all who sent in Valentines and goodies!  Special thanks to Mrs. Swain for those beautiful and yummy cookies!!! Some of our friends were willing to get ashes and some just wanted to watch.

We continue to work hard on our Montessori Lessons.  We are always so proud when we complete something independently or add an extension to an existing lesson.

February 5th - 9th

Last Friday, students in Nursery 2 through Kindergarten participated in a service project.  The students filled snack bags for Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  They were able to fill 60 bags for students in need.  This was our first service project in Nursery 2 and I am so proud of them for showing that even the youngest child can make a difference in the lives of others!

"Movement, or physical activity, is an essential factor in intellectual growth."

Mrs. Mosser keeps us moving on Mondays and Wednesdays in gym!  The children have begun to work in stations during gym time.  Multiple activities are set up and the children rotate through them.

January 29th - February 2nd

"The goal of Early Childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn."

-Maria Montessori

This week we started to discuss patterns.  What they are.  How we make them.  We used a magnets and picture cards to create patterns.  Each child had a turn choosing a card and then duplicating the pattern picked.  It was so much fun we didn't even realize we were learning!

We got our hands a little dirty in Science and made Snow Dough!  Snow Dough is made with lotion, corn starch, and glitter.  We mixed equal parts of each ingredient until we got a snow consistency. Everyone got a turn to mix and explore.

Measure, Pour, Mix!

In STEAM, we built bridges for our cars using cups and popsicle sticks.  We had to decide if one stick or two sticks allowed our cars to not fall off and safely cross the bridge.

Braden and CJ decided if they worked together, they could make a longer bridge!

Cold and flu season is upon us!  Mrs. Festa and I are cleaning the room and materials each and everyday to help prevent the spread of germs.  We are also washing hands and using sanitizer every chance we can.  Please be mindful that your child must be fever, vomit and/or diarrhea free without meds for 24 hours before returning to school.  Please remind your child to cough into their elbow.  This is something we practice almost daily.

-Scholastic book orders are due by today 2/2.
