October 12 - 16

We attended our first virtual prayer service to celebrate Founder's Day.

The society of the Holy Child Jesus was founded by Cornelia Connelly, in England, 1846. Cornelia was a wife, a mother of five children, and a religious woman.  Her unique educational philosophy continues to guide Holy Child Schools all around the world.

Our letter this week is the letter Aa.

Our letter Aa word wall.
Can you find words that start with the letter Aa in your house?

Tracing the sandpaper letter Aa.

In Montessori, the sandpaper letters are used to introduce children to the phonetic  sounds.  Children repeat the sound while tracing the letter with two fingers. Using a textured letter allows the child to learn the letter visually and muscularly.  Since the child is encouraged to trace the letter over and over, it becomes a part their muscle memory.

A BIG thank you to the families who have purchased books from our Scholastic book wish list for our classroom!  We are a class of book lovers!

During the month of November, we will be celebrating religious diversity. If you or someone you know would like to share with a class, a division, or the whole school, please email jmyers@holychildacademy.com .

October 5th - October 9th

This week we learned about the letter M and the sound that the letter M makes.

M is for Mouse!

We made a letter Mm word wall. Can you find M words in your house?

We love to learn letters and their sounds through songs by Jack Hartman.  The children call him "our friend Jack".
You can listen along with your child here:

This alphabet songs help us to learn letter recognition for the letter M.  The super-catchy and clear alphabet song also allows the children to hear the M sound.

To learn the feel of the letter M, we drove cars on the M highway!
